Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone

Merry Christmas:

It is hard to believe that the school year is drawing to a close for 2018. It has been a busy but exciting year at Reporoa Primary and we should all be very proud of what we have achieved. I have included some data reports further on in the newsletter as we are very proud of our progress this year. The teachers and students have strived to reach these goals and I am extremely pleased with the outcome.

On Thursday evening we celebrate the achievements of our Year 6 learners as they prepare to transition to intermediate. It will be a great occasion with some extremely proud parents. Proud of not only their achievements but also the progress they have made during their time at our school. You are welcome to join us at 6:30pm at the College hall.

On Friday progress and achievement reports will come home with each child. Please take the time to sit down with your child and read their report with them. The report shares their achievement against the curriculum and comments on their progress.

On Monday your child will bring home their class placement letter. They will spend some time with their next years teacher on Monday afternoon as a transition to 2019.

As a school we are reviewing our charter and curriculum. This is your last opportunity to have your say as I am currently preparing the draft charter and curriculum to present to the board next Tuesday. I won’t take long and we value your input. Please see the link further down in this newsletter.

Progress Reporting:

I am very pleased to report that our children have progressed well this year. The main highlights are that…

  • 74% of the whole cohort are at or above expected curriculum levels in reading.
  • 81% of the whole cohort are at or above expected curriculum levels in writing.
  • 86% of the whole cohort are at or above expected curriculum levels in mathematics.

We have also managed to ensure that the majority of our priority students (students who were not working at their expected level) have accelerated in their  progress (moved more than a years progress within a year).

Charter and Curriculum Review:

An email has been sent out to fill in our charter and curriculum review. We are keen to hear your thoughts so that we can design learning that best meets your child’s needs. Please take a moment to complete the review, if you haven’t already, online by clicking the link provided below or going through your email. Please only answer it once!

Farewell:

It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to Whaea Phil next year. She is going to be teaching over at the college as she wishes to extend her teaching capabilities in the secondary sector. It is a great opportunity for Phil and while we will miss her, we are pleased she is staying in the community and working with our children as they move to the college.

We are currently advertising the new position which will be appointed early in the new year. As it is very late, we may need to have an interim plan so the new teacher can be released from their school. Unfortunately this is all we can communicate at this time. We understand it is not ideal, but rest assured we will be looking for the best possible teacher for your children.

Thank you morning tea:

We have sent home some invitations to parents who have helped us during the year. This is to a morning tea on Friday at 10:30 in the hall. It is our way of thanking you for everything you do for us. If your invite has been lost at the bottom of a bag, or you didn’t get one but have helped us during the year, please feel free to come along!

Wanted – Duty volunteers:

On the last day of school our lovely board of trustees are thanking the teachers with a lunch. We would love for some parents to come along and volunteer to do playground duty so that all teachers can enjoy the lunch! It will be between 12 and 1:15.

Triathlon today…What a great and enjoyable event, and the weather has turned out perfect for it.

A huge thank you to Jolene & John Guyton for taking on the huge task of organising this and making it go so smoothly. Thank you to all the parent helpers without your help these days cannot happen.
