Korero from the Deputy Principal:

What an amazing effort and attitude shown by our tamariki at the recent Cluster Cross Country. I was so proud to see our students representing our school with such positivity, determination, and respect – truly living out our REPS values in action. Thank you to our parent helpers, as always these events can’t happen without you.

During the week, I also had the opportunity to do a classroom walkthrough and was thrilled to see so many students fully engaged in their mahi. It was a real highlight to see the focus, creativity, and pride in learning happening across all year levels. It was during this walkthrough that I spotted our Star of the Week – Te Matarehua. His commitment to his learning, and the way he spoke about his work with pride, really stood out to me.

Starting next term, I’m excited to introduce a Principal’s Award at our weekly assemblies. This award will recognise students like Te Matarehua who are consistently showing excellence in their learning and embodying our school values.

nga mihi,

Nikkole Fell

Hillary Outdoors:

Last week our Kaiarahi Leaders attended the Hillary Outdoors Camp. They all really enjoyed it and said it was cold and muddy with lots of rain every day! but said it was still Fun. Arabella has written about her experience and the boys will have theirs in the next newsletter. Have a look at our facebook page for more photos of the trip.

Star of the week:

Ka rawe te mahi to Te Matarehua

You are this weeks star of the week. You were so proud of your writing as I can tell by the big smile on your face! You told me that you took your time with your writing and you were focusing on consistency with making sure your letters are all the same size and you achieved this. I love how you took your time with your border and showed perserverance in it! It looks great – keep up the great work.

Maddy

A trip to Mitre 10 in Taupo was proposed by these students to make Maddy’s seat “more bright and beautiful” their wish was granted with some money and off they went. Many requests were also made along the way to stop and spend their “spare change”. They are also known as the gardening crew to ensure Maddy’s plants also stay bright and beautiful just like Maddy.

Kids Can:

A big THANK YOU to Kids Can for supplying every child in our school with a nice warm jacket! Whaea Jenese has named them all and issued them to each child. If your child did not recieve one, please let us know and we will fit them with one.

Reporting:

As you may or may not be aware but teachers have been teaching from a new curriculum (The refreshed NZ Curriculum). We started this last year but now it is embedded. This means that we are having to change how we do our reporting slightly. Teachers are having to match up all your child’s learning goals to the new reporting and to make sure this is accurate and the data aligns with the new curriculum goals on HERO, we need a bit more time to ensure this is correct. This means reports will be coming out in Week 1 Term 3 alongside Student Led Conferences in that week also.

When you get your child’s report next term, instead of seeing a progress line from when your child started school you will just see 1 dot. This dot is where you child is currently working at. Next year, there will also be some changes to the language in the reports to align with the rest of the country that is a requirement from the Ministry of Education. With the changes of the new curriculum, the bar has lifted and the expectation for each year level has increased. This also includes new teaching and assessment methods and content. As a result, you could see a change in your student’s progress or achievement compared to previous years.

Learning is now in phases: phase 1 (years 0-3) phase 2 (years 4-6) and phase 3 (years 7-8). Each phase has a year-by-year teaching sequence. These sequences support teachers to know what to teach and when to teach it. They also support teachers with how to teach it. The sequences have been organised to support students to revisit ideas, knowledge, and practices in ways that deepen their learning and enable them to use it at the next phase. Teachers actively assess progress in relation to these year-by-year teaching sequences. At the end of every phase there is a progress outcome – statements that describe what students should sufficiently understand, know, and be able to do to progress to the next phase successfully.

ESOL Day:

Looking forward to our first ESOL day tomorrow with our Kahui Ako schools. We hope that you can make it to some of the day with your child. We will have team building games, local stories from Reporoa, discussions, craft project and lots of fun from ages 5 to year 13.

Reporoa College parent evening:

Sports:Sports-1

Cluster Cross Country

Despite the dismal start to the day, the sun eventually came out. A tough course and a tough day for our competitors but they persevered and all crossed the finish line. We are very proud of them. We had a couple of placings:

Unita Guyton 8 year old girls – 1st, Lennox Harvey 6 year old boys – 1st, Zeeana Vercoe 6 year old girls – 3rd.

Good luck to Unita who will go to CBOP Cross Country in a couple of weeks.

A big mihi to all the whanau who were there to tautoko (support). Our tamariki really enjoyed being cheered on by you all.

Ngā mihi nui
