Kia ora, Nameste, Talofa, Konnichiwa, Guten Tag , Gidday, Vannakkam, ni Hao, Kia orana, Hola, Salam, Sa wat dee kha, Dia Dhuit, Goeie Dag, Bonjour, Hello, (please let us know the greeting in your language if it is not here)

Korero from the Deputy Principal:

As we wrap up Term 2, I want to take a moment to thank you all for your continued support and partnership. It’s been a busy and rewarding term filled with learning, growth, and many moments to be proud of across the school.

Next Term, on the first day back I will be off-site attending the pōwhiri for Richelle at Hamilton West. A pōwhiri is a highly significant and respectful way to formally welcome someone into a school community. It not only acknowledges Richelle’s new leadership role, but supports her transition to a new school. This is an important occasion for Richelle, and I feel privileged to be able to support her as she begins this next chapter. Pip and Tanissha will also join me along with 18 tamariki. The school will be a lot smaller for this day and in capable hands with the rest of the staff.

Please note: our school assembly will be moved to Tuesday at 2:15pm so I can be there to welcome everyone back properly, share some holiday highlights, and kick off Term 3 with our REPS focus — “Positivity.”

As we head into the holidays, I hope each of you gets the chance to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones. Whether you’re enjoying a staycation, heading away, or simply slowing down, please take care and stay safe.

We look forward to seeing everyone back — refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning, growing, and succeeding together.

nga mihi,

Nikkole Fell

Matariki Production:

First of all thank you to all of our community who came along to our Matariki Production. It was great seeing so many parents there supporting Mihi and our school in their production. Our tamariki should be very proud of themselves and the effort the put in to their props, remembering their lines and their enthusiasm! Thank you to all of our amazing staff who really got behind this production and worked very hard for this day to happen

Stars of the week:

Ka rawe te mahi to Isaballa and Harry and Marley (absent)

You are this weeks stars of the week. Mr Mo chose you both for your leadership and confidence in the Matariki Production. I definitely agree! you both stood out on stage and knew your lines so well!

Student Learning Conferences and Reporting Term 3

Next term in week 1 on Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July  (3:30 – 6:30) we will be holding our Student Learning Conferences. It is a 3 way conference between whānau, the child and the teacher and an opprtunity for your child to articulate their learning to you. Your child’s report will go out on the Monday so it is a great opportunity to talk to your chil’s teacher about it. The interview times will be 15 minutes long with a 5 minute transition time. It is really important that you stick to your allocated time slot as going over creates a domino effect for everyone elses times and this may mean other parents get a shorter time. If you do find you need more time with your child’s teacher they will happily arrange another time. Our booking platform has changed and you will now be able to book through HERO. Please make sure you have the app downloaded as HERO will send you a booking link once it goes live. If you have any issues, please see Jenese in the office.

The Ministry of Education has put out a ‘parent portal’ which has some great tips on ‘preparing for your child’s interview’ such as:

  • Understanding your child’s progress
  • What to talk to your child about
  • Sharing information with the teacher
  • Goal setting and wellbeing
  • Discussion points for the interview (specific to your child’s year level)

https://www.education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/parent-portal/preparing-parent-teacher-interviews-new-zealand-curriculum

Your child’s report – Just a reminder that since the reporting format has changed on HERO to align with the New Curriculum you will only see ‘one dot’ on their graph as opposed to when they started school. The dot shows where your child is currently sitting in relation to where they are working in their year level (mid year). You may notice that the dot may not be where you envisioned your child being. This is because the new Curriculum has set the bar far higher than the previous Curriculum. It is actually a good change from the Ministry – It is a lot clearer and more specific for teachers to follow too.

Field Days:

A few of our students here had the opportunity to head along to field days. I went along on the Saturday and left the fog behind to a hard to believe (not wet and muddy day field days!) Mike King was there and I had the opprtunity to chat to him about working at our amazing rural school. He gifted lots of books and ‘I am Hope’ wrists bands for our school. Although not enough for each child, we could give two to two students in each class. I do have a couple spare, so please come and see me if you would like one or know someone who would like one.

If you are not familiar with Mike King’s work he is an advocate for ‘normalising mental health’ his aim is re shape attitudes towards mental health and give every young person in NZ the chance to speak up. Check out his website for more information.

Ministry Parent Portal:

The Ministry have put out a parent portal which has some fantastic resources in there. Below is a link where you can click to find out what you child is learning in the year level (now called phases). The Parent Portal is a collection of guidance and resources for parents, families and carers. This year-by-year learning guide covers the New Zealand Curriculum and currently covers Years 1 to 8. The guide is structured by year level. Choose your child’s level and find ways to understand what they do at school, and how you can support them to achieve what they need to this year.

ESOL Day:

We hosted our first ESOL day here 2 weeks ago with some of our Kahui Ako school students. We had a mixture of cultures including Cambodian, Filipino, Indian and Chinese. It was an amazing day of celebrating with each other and making connections. We are excited for many more future opportunities to do this and celebrate our diverse range of cultures we have in our community.

Sports:Sports-1

Basketball

Rico and Zelind have been playing basketball for the Reporoa year 7/8 team every Wednesday. They have both done well to play above their grade. Their team plays off for first and second this Wednesday. Good luck lads!

Hockey

Marama, James and Unita all play hockey for the Broadlands team every Friday. They are half way through their hockey season. For Marama, it is her first season playing hockey. We are very thankful that these tamariki get to continue to play the sport they love.

CBOP

Unita has made us proud, up against a huge pool of talented runners from around the Central Bay of Plenty. She blitzed through the school and cluster event, and yesterday she conquered another tough course.
