Korero from the Principal:

This week we have a visiting principal, Louise Reis, from Toronto.  We welcomed Louise on Monday with the a whole school powhiri. Louise will we working alongside me for the week. We will be out visiting other schools in the area as well.

Louise is visiting because I have been chosen to participate in a Global Principals’ Partnership Exchange Programme. The exchange programme
has been running in Canada for some years and principals report finding it an invaluable learning experience. Principals undergo an inquiry piece of research and on return, write a report on their findings.
I will be travelling to Toronto, Ontario for a one week exchange followed by a week in Vancouver visiting other schools, from the 25th March.
The principals’ exchange programme is an excellent way to build an international community of principals which benefits school leadership globally, and introduces fresh teaching, learning and organisational ideas to participating schools.

While I am away, our Deputy Principal will be stepping into the role of acting in place of the Principal. Please contact Nikkole for anything you would normally see me for. She will be happy to assist you.

Nga mihi,

Richelle

Star of the week:

Ka rawe te mahi Maddy

Well done to Maddy who was so excited to bring her writing to me this week. Maddy has improved her writing with sounding out her words and making sure her writing has capital letters and full stops.

Whare Fun Day:

As part of our fortnightly initiative to increase our whakawhanaungatanga we spend Friday afternoons with our whare groups. Mr Webby and Whaea Tanissha are taking each whare group to the local squash club for some hand eye coordination fun. It was fantastic to see our tuakana helping out our littlies and taking time and care to engage with them. We look forward to having Waimahana in the courts with us this week. A big mihi to the Reporoa Squash Club for hosting us and allowing us to use the equipment and facilities.

Leadership:

This year as part of our school year 6 leadership development we took our Kaiarahi and Kahui Ako Leaders to the GRIP Leadership Conference. The ‘GRIP Student Leadership Conference’ focused on giving our student leaders practical ideas and skills which will allow them to make a significant contribution to their leadership. It was a great day out and as always our leaders represented our school with their REPS.

Lions Club Community Day:

On Monday our Kaiarahi Leaders and Kahui Ako leaders went to a community day where they helped out students with disabilities. Our leaders showed kindness and empathy and proved their leadership skills in many ways. Thank you to the Lions Club for putting on this wonderful event and letting our students be part of this day.

Sports:Sports-1

First off I would like to acknowledge all the whanau and community support Reporoa Primary have received this term. It has been truly heartwarming to see the time and effort put in to see our tamariki involved in sports.

Swimming

Our senior tamariki showed courage, resilience and their REPS during our senior school swimming sports. We are all very proud of them, despite the chilly conditions they all managed their 2 event minimum quota and some wanted to do more. A big mihi to Reporoa College for setting up our lanes, the pool looked amazing and also for being so accommodating with our practice swims. Thank you!

3v3 Basketball

We have had such a huge interest in basketball from our boys. We now have 3 teams entered into the weekly 3v3 competition in Rotorua. Great to see the young lads supporting each other on and off the court. Thank you to the parents for making this all happen and supporting our boys. I think it’s fair to say their best part is the kai afterwards 🙂

The next round is 5v5 Mini Ball with a bit more rules applied to the format. If your child is a year 3-6 and would like to be put into a team, we need names please from parents. When parents confirm their name with me they will be out into a team. Use the contact info at the bottom of the page to confirm your child’s name.

BOP Golf Fun Day

We had 3 students go to our first golf fun day hosted by Sports BOP and they had so much fun. The interest from schools was massive, so Sam from BOP Golf is looking for ways to accommodate more teams, which is great news for us.  A big mihi to Gregg for taking our boys today, such an awesome experience. Reporoa golf club will host kids free of charge, they just need an adult present with them on the course. So if you’re interested go down for a whack or contact me and we can sort something out. There is another golf fun day coming up at the end of the term.

Winter Football

After expressions of interest. See the information below and get back to me if your child is interested. We do not have to have enough to make a team, which is choice, it means our tamariki won’t miss out if soccer is something they want to do this winter.

The winter football season is a Saturday morning competition designed to be fun for players at all levels from age 4 to 15. Depending on the teams who enter the competition, games may be played in Taupō, Turangi, Reporoa or Marotiri.

Players must register by Monday 01 April 2024 to ensure a spot in one of our teams.

Teams are created by the committee, with the intention of mixing players of different abilities and experience to encourage an even competition over the season. Players play at their age level based on the year of birth. Teams are mixed boys and girls.

Players will be notified of their team & coach before the start of the season.  Coaches are typically parents / caregivers, and we are often short of coaches.  If you would like to find out more about coaching, please email [email protected].  Coaches will generally hold one practice a week, at a time & day determined by the coach.
